ROOFING
DEXTER®

What is DEXTER® roofing?

This patented, ribbed and pre-formed cladding system is an innovative new roofing concept. The DEXTER® elements allow rapid installation without the use of heavy mechanised tools. This significantly reduces the installation time on the standard part of the roof.

Areas of application

Type of roof: Cold roof or warm roof
Z1 with limited Pb and Cd

Type of building:  Premises with low to moderate humidity levels
Z1 with limited Pb and Cd
For other types of building, please consult VM ZINC® Australia.

Minimum pitch:    > 9° or 15%
In particularly exposed locations or locations at an altitude of 900 m or more, the minimum slope is 15° or 25%.
Please consult us.

Climates  Low altitude: no restriction
Mountain areas: supplementary waterproofing necessary and double ventilation according to the technical regulations in force
All windy regions: increase the number of sliding clips at the roof edges in exposed area.
Please consult VM ZINC® Australia

Panel Dimensions

All DEXTER® elements are made of 0.7 mm VM ZINC PLUS®. The height of the joint formed on interlocking is 35 mm.

Full Panel:
Coverage width: 400 mm
Coverage length: 835 mm
Elements / m²: 3 elements / m²
Half Panel:
Coverage width: 400 mm
Coverage length: 436 mm
Elements / m²: 6 elements / m²

ANTHRA-ZINC® PLUS
minimum 0.7mm thick

What is VM ZINC PLUS®?
VM ZINC PLUS® is VM ZINC® coated on the underside with a protective layer (Umicore patent).
1. Surface appearances available : QUARTZ-ZINC® PLUS, and ANTHRA-ZINC® PLUS.
2. Allows the use of an incompatible roof deck.
3. VM ZINC PLUS® products, like natural VM ZINC®, can be bent, folded or profiled without any surface change thus allowing the use of identical installation methods to natural.
4. No need to ventilate the underside of VM ZINC PLUS®.

Characteristics of this technique

  • DEXTER® elements are assembled longitudinally by simply locking the sides of the elements into one another. No seaming is required.
  • The transverse joints can be staggered or aligned.
  • VM ZINC PLUS® DEXTER® is installed on minimum 19 mm plywood (roofing), 15 mm (cladding).
  • An anti abrasive building paper (i.e. Tyveck) must be laid between VM ZINC PLUS® and plywood.
  • A 40 mm continuous ventilation gap must be left clear beneath the plywood.
  • Air inlets and outlets shall be provided at both top and bottom.

Installation guide

Laying the panel:
1 DEXTER® panels are laid from bottom to the top in parallel vertical rows on the roof or facade. Starting from right to left.
2 When placed in position, each DEXTER® needs to be fixed immediately at the top by a sheet clip inserted into the centre of the safety fold. The side clips are put in place during or after a complete vertical row has been laid. Two clips are fixed every 417 mm for 2 clips along the side with the oblique fold. At the eaves, the spacing between the first two clips is 352 mm for 2 clips. The first side clip is positioned at the eaves 185 mm from the base of the first DEXTER®.
3 Place the side with the rounded detail onto the side of the lower DEXTER® element.
4 Lay down the DEXTER® and snap in place the side with the oblique fold of the DEXTER® element.
5 Insert the hem at the base of the upper DEXTER® into the single welt of the lower DEXTER® and push forward.

Clips:

Role of the side clip : Ensuring the mechanical resistance of the entire roof.

VM ZINC® Fixed Side Clips: 300 Series Stainless Steel Clips. The clip is pre-punched with counter-sunk holes for attachment. Designed to withstand negative load requirements. 2 clips on the upstand of each element.

VM ZINC® sheet clips to fix top of element to the deck.

Design professional and installer to confirm the hole pull and rupture performance for all fastener and clip combinations during the submittal process.
Design consideration - Junction:
  • The elements are assembled longitudinally by simply locking the sides of the elements into one another.
  • The elements are assembled transversally using double-welt joints.
  • The transverse joints overlap by 158 mm and the side with the rounded profile has a 200-mm zone where the profile narrows to facilitate overlapping.
  • The DEXTER® system is laid from the right end to the left end like roofing tiles.
  • The transverse joints can be staggered or aligned.

The DEXTER® panels must be installed from right to left.
The transverse joints can be staggered or aligned.

Only three DEXTER® panels are needed to cover 1 m². The DEXTER® element is fixed onto the support at the top using a sheet clip. Along the side, clips are installed on the oblique fold using two side clips.
